SOON ON OUR WAY!

We had a great time when we visited mainland Greece in 2015 and have been anxious to return.  For this trip, we're focusing on the island of Crete!

Trip Overview:

We'll fly Atlanta to Athens via Paris.  From Athens, we'll fly Olympic Airlines to Chania (or Hania) one of the larger cities on the northwest coast.

We'll be in Chania over the Easter holiday and we're looking forward to processions and celebrations.  This photo shows an Easter procession in Ragusa, Sicily when we visited in 2011:

From Chania, we'll travel southwest by bus to Paleochora.  From there, we'll take ferries to visit several small villages (Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro, and Chora Sfakion) along the southern coast.

After a few days, another bus trip back north to Rethymno.  Here, we'll pick up a rental car to explore the mountains and valleys south of the city.

With some flexibility in our schedule, we'll have a chance to decide along the way what to do next.  Perhaps the Amari Valley or further east to Sitia to see the Diktean Cave where Zeus was born!

Our last stop on the island is Heraklion where we'll visit the Palace of Knossos.

We will be back in Athens for two nights before our return flight on May 10.

We're looking forward to wonderful food--thick Greek yogurt with sweet honey for breakfast, Greek salads with olives and feta for lunch, and delicious grilled meats with vegetables for dinner.

Hoping for good weather, scenic hiking trails, wildflower meadows, gorgeous gorges, and friendly locals!

If we're lucky, we might even pass a Minotaur along the way!

Cheers!
